We have to start with some Willy Pete clips.

White phosphorous is a somewhat controversial weapon. It always has been and probably always will be. It is bad, but so are other weapons.

Back in the old RVN days, we used to have "Willy Pete" grenades that could be used for special occasions. - Like Marking a Target or setting something on Fire. - They sure worked.

Imagine trying to mark a target for an F-4 Phantom jet. A plain smoke grenade just isn't going to work. We did not have laser designators then. We had Willy Pete.
