Cavalry Units are Different.Cavalry soldiers are not like the rest of the Army.Cavalry has a culture and traditions that do not fit well with some military people. The following are two video clips that demonstrate some of the differences between the regular Army and other Cav units.
Not too long ago, there were many Cav units in the Army. Now, however, there are only a few. Someone at the Pentagon, apparently, decided that the Cav was no longer needed. Their time had passed. They were "out-dated." Whoever it was that was making those decisions - was WRONG. The Cav is just as viable now as it ever was. No, we don't ride horses any more, but we do the missions of Reconnaissance and Security better than any other units. Cav should have UAVs. Cav knows how to make better use of them than most. Cav could integrate UAVs with other reconnaissance. Cav could interpret the images and recommend courses of action quickly. Cav could save time and money. Cav can be a decisive advantage, and extremely cost-effective. The one small downside is that Cav guys can be arrogant because they are always right. Some commanders don't like that. The other small problem might be Cav guys who shout obscenities at people who who do not agree with them. Some commanders don't like that. Another small detail is that Cav guys sometimes wear black stetson hats with crossed sabers instead of the uniforms that might be expected of them on certain special occasions. Some commanders don't like that. My feeling is that if those some commanders are more worried about uniforms than a quick and decisive victory over the enemy, then, . . . . Some commanders won't like that. You can Google CAVALRY all you want and find more links than these, but here is a start in a different order:
